Overview

The 2027 Honda Passport midsize SUV is fresh off a complete redesign last year, trading its subdued looks for a more aggressive look. In concept, it’s essentially a 2-row version of the Pilot and comes with a very spacious interior, a large trunk, and standard i-VTM4 torque-vectoring AWD. Sitting on the same Global Light Truck Platform as the Ridgeline, Pilot, and Odyssey, the Passport also uses the same naturally aspirated 285-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 engine, which is a disadvantage compared to rivals like the Toyota 4Runner, which also offers a hybrid powertrain.

What’s New for 2027

The Passport was totally redesigned last year, so the 2027 Passport won’t be getting any changes, as it’s still a box-fresh model. Prices may increase a little, but they have not been released at the time of writing.

Exterior

Honda’s “Born Wild” design language presents a bold and boxy profile with a commanding presence, with a thinner grille and more angular headlights than the Pilot, but the same body-color C-pillar. It’s also nearly 10 inches shorter than the Pilot. The TrailSport trims stand out for their red tow hooks, skid plates, trailer hitch, LED fog lights, panoramic sunroof, amber accents, 150-pound-rated roof rails, and all-terrain tires. The Blackout trims feature completely blacked-out exterior trim. All trims run on 18-inch wheels.

Interior

All trims get the same 10.2-inch digital gauge cluster and 12.3-inch touchscreen with Google Built-In, Alexa, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, a wireless charging pad, and Wi-Fi. A 9-speaker audio system is standard on all trims except the TrailSport Elite, which gets a 12-speaker Bose setup. Physical climate controls remain present.

Seats get leather and cloth, leatherette and cloth, or all-leather, depending on the trim, but heated power front seats, ambient lighting, and 3-zone climate control are standard. The TrailSport Elite is the only one with ventilated front seats, heated outboard rear seats, and a heated steering wheel. The rear seat is spacious, with lots of leg- and headroom, and a flat floor means three adults can sit in comfort.

The Passport completes the 0-60 sprint in around 7.1 to 7.7 seconds, depending on the trim and as-tested weight, which is adequate but not quick. The 10-speed auto does a good job of keeping the V6 spinning in the meat of its torque band.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • All-terrain tires, off-road suspension, and skid plates on TrailSport
  • Generous rear seat and cargo volume
  • Standard 7-mode torque-vectoring AWD
  • 5,000-pound towing capacity

Cons:

  • NA V6 lacks the low-end punch of turbocharged rivals
  • No hybrid or electrified powertrain option
  • Average fuel economy
  • Pricing exceeds larger 3-row Pilot in some configurations

Verdict

The Passport is one of the top choices in a competitive class, thanks to its spacious cabin, thoughtful storage solutions, high general feature count, and surprisingly off-road-capable TrailSport trims. The old-school NA V6 is either reassuringly proven or behind the times, depending on your take, with merely acceptable performance and economy figures. The rumor mill suggests this platform will gain hybrid functionality in the near future, and this will fix one of the Passport’s few flaws, as it’s a highly compelling 2-row SUV in the midsize segment.
