The combination of rear-wheel drive, a manual transmission, and a high-revving naturally aspirated engine makes the Honda S2000 a genuine classic, and there’s one for sale that might pass as affordable, too. Currently live on Bring a Trailer, this 2008 S2000 is bidding at just over $26,000 at the time of writing, with a few hours of the auction left to go. That’s less Toyota Prius ($28,550), or Kia K5 ($27,490), and it even undercuts the only new car with a similar recipe, the Toyota GR86 ($31,200). It’s also more than 10 grand cheaper than the 2026 Subaru BRZ Limited ($35,860). Let’s see what this example looks like after almost 20,000 miles.
Chicane Silver S2000 Is a Beauty, But Not Perfect

This S2000 example originates from Coggin Honda of St. Augustine in Florida and was acquired by the selling dealer earlier this year. Boasting Chicane Silver Metallic paint with a black leather interior, it’s less flashy than the red, yellow, or blue paint options that were available. Sadly, it’s not flawless, with the listing revealing a repainted trunk lid and rear bumper, and the Carfax report notes “minor damage” in August 2023, which partly explains why the bids have not skyrocketed to the six-figure stratosphere that immaculate Club Racer variants can reach.

But a less-than-perfect example that won’t significantly appreciate is just the kind of sports car you want, allowing you to enjoy the car on the road rather than preserving it as some sort of investment. Another reason this isn’t a ridiculously expensive S2000 is that it’s a later AP2 model, featuring a 2.2-liter F22C1 VTEC engine with more torque but a lower redline than the AP1, which had the legendary 9,000-rpm F20C engine. You get 237 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque, versus 247 hp and 153 lb-ft in the pre-facelift S2K.

You still get a limited-slip differential and a six-speed manual transmission, though, as well as xenon headlights, 17-inch alloy wheels, and creature comforts like cruise control and a CD player, perfect for listening to the new two-disc J. Cole album on. Jermaine himself owns a Honda, so he’d likely approve. But before you go on a cruise listening to Two Six, it’s probably best to replace the Bridgestone Potenza rubber, as these tires were produced in 2019. At least you don’t need new oil, as that was replaced before this S2000 was listed. Included with the sale is the window sticker, which shows that this car’s price when new was $34,935, so it’s quite the sports car bargain. If only Honda would make a new one for similar money.
