Overview

The 2027 Honda Civic compact car, in sedan and hatchback body styles, has been a firm favorite in the U.S. since the nameplate’s launch here more than half a century ago in 1973. Nowadays, it’s offered as either a sedan or a hatchback, with a 150-horsepower gas or 200-hp hybrid powertrain. We review the stick-shift Si and hotrod Type R models separately. The Civic punches above its weight, with a classy interior and sharp driving dynamics, while the hybrid powertrain is capable of 50 MPG.

The 2027 Civic Sedan and Hatchback both continue unchanged, following quite a substantial revamp for MY2025, when it received a facelift and the hybrid powertrain.

Exterior

The Civic boasts sharp, clean styling that balances sportiness and restraint without polarizing opinions. Its low and wide appearance hints at its fun dynamics, but the LX looks a little drab on its 16-inch steel wheels with plastic covers. LED headlights and DRLs are standard, but only hybrids get a power moonroof, while the Sport gets a chromed exhaust outlet. The hatchback body style comes only in Sport and Sport Touring/Touring Hybrid trims.

Interior

The high-quality cabin is chic and easy to live with, and looks a class above other compacts. You get a TFT gauge display and touchscreen (both 7.0 inches), 4- or 8-speaker audio, and wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Only the upper trims get heated front seats and dual-zone climate control

Only the Sport Touring Hybrid comes with power front seats, a wireless charging pad, a 10.2-inch digital gauge cluster, a 9.0-inch touchscreen, and a Google-based infotainment system with Wi-Fi, Alexa, wireless smartphone integration, and 12-speaker Bose audio. The cabin is very roomy for a compact, but rear headroom is only adequate.

Price Range and Best Value Trim

The 2027 Honda Civic’s price is expected to stay relatively flat, but final figures have not been revealed. The Sport Hybrid Sedan provides the most bang for your buck for under $30K.

2027 Honda Civic Specs Overview

The LX and Sport have a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter 4-cylinder running the Atkinson Cycle, and Sport Hybrid/Touring Hybrid models feature Honda’s two-motor hybrid system that functions like a range-extender EV most of the time, though the engine can also power the wheels at highway speeds.

Powertrain Options

Note: The hybrid system’s 141-hp gas engine and 181-hp electric motor deliver a combined 200 hp.

Performance and 0-60 MPH

The base powertrain can be considered underpowered, and takes 8.9 to 9.6 seconds to heave the Civic to 60 MPH, depending on testing conditions and vehicle weight. The hybrid is far snappier, doing the same in only 6.1 to 6.6 seconds, depending on the trim. It’s smooth, responsive, and eager.

Fuel Economy (MPG)

We expect the 2027 EPA estimates to match last year’s, once they’re released, so the base gas powertrain should be good for a best of 32/41/36 MPG city/highway/combined and a worst of 30/38/34 MPG, depending on trim and body style. The hybrids are far superior and hover between 50/47/49 MPG and 50/45/48 MPG – only a touch behind the Corolla Hybrid, and well worth it for the Civic’s added driving pleasure.

The sedan offers a competitive 14.8 cu-ft of cargo volume for both powertrains, but the hatchback is more practical, with 12.5 cu-ft on offer, and the option to expand the trunk by folding the rear seats.

Ground Clearance

The passenger-car-typical 5.5 inches of ground clearance and lack of an AWD option mean the Civic is strictly made for good paved roads in the city and on the highway, nothing more.

Warranty

Honda backs the Civic with fairly average coverage, but includes a little complimentary maintenance.

Verdict

The Civic is still the compact car class standard, blending efficiency, performance, and fine road manners with a classy and roomy cabin. The Sport Hybrid is a great buy, with punchy performance, superb efficiency, and a great feature set at the price. The base powertrain and Spartan LX trim are best avoided. The only chinks in the car’s armor are that AWD is not available for snowy areas and the default touchscreen is quite small.
