Glashütte Original Debuts Its North American-Exclusive Seventies ‘X’ Chronograph, Limited to 100

For the 10th anniversary of its Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date, Glashütte Original went with something a little more laid-back to commemorate the milestone celebration. The new Seventies’ X’ Chronograph is a North America-exclusive launch, limited to just 100 pieces, and it’s full of thoughtful retro design cues that express the more casual, playful side of the 1970s. The case still features the signature rounded-square silhouette the Seventies collection is known for, but the white lacquer dial with vibrant red accents brings something fresh to the table. There’s a bold red “10” at 10 o’clock, an obvious but tasteful homage to the model’s 10-year run, and the vinyl-inspired grooves on the subdials give it a tactile throwback texture. Paired with either a stainless steel bracelet or a rubber strap, the watch wears like a modern daily driver.

There’s something about the dial execution and overall palette that feels like a Polaroid of Miami Beach in the ’70s, sun-faded, upbeat, slightly sporty but not trying too hard. You can tell Glashütte wasn’t aiming to recreate a specific historical reference. Flip the watch over and the in-house flyback chronograph movement is on full display, showcasing all the finishing details collectors expect from the brand, like striping, beveled edges, and blued screws. Its balance feels pretty in line with what people want from a modern chronograph that isn’t trying to out-muscle everything else in the case.

For those who follow Glashütte Original but maybe don’t always find themselves in its usual orbit, the Seventies’ X’ could be a fun entry point. The limited run of 100 pieces makes it relatively rare, though not impossible to secure, and the North America-only designation gives it a little extra exclusivity. In a year full of reissues and hyper-limited collabs, this release stands out for being comfortable in its own skin, rooted in history, lightly nostalgic, but ultimately just a well-executed chronograph.
